About AISP & its Funders

The Artists-in-Schools Program (AISP) is The Print Center’s award winning visual arts youth educational program with an established reputation for an innovative structured, yet flexible, curriculum model and capacity to deliver high quality arts instruction. Now in its sixteenth year, AISP offers completely self-contained year-long classes providing teaching-artists, curricula, all course materials and field trips to students in Philadelphia public high schools. On average, classes meet twice weekly for ten weeks per semester, to supplement and enhance existing art education programs in participating schools. Curricula are based on exhibitions at The Print Center and include instruction in contemporary art and theory to provide a framework from which to learn the essentials of photography and printmaking using a wide range of tools and techniques.

During the 2017-18 school year, AISP worked with more than 450 students in classes at the Charter High School for Architecture + Design, Northeast High School, Olney Charter High School, Sankofa Freedom Academy, The School of the Future and The U School. Teaching-artists Grimaldi Baez, Josias Figueirido, Joyce Millman, Marilyn Rodriguez, Alexandra Snowden and Lindsay Sparagana worked with classroom teachers Tara Capobianco, Linda Heeg, Josh Kleiman, Andrew Phillips, Ayinde Purnell, Marsha Rosenthal, Zach Sammons, and Chris Sweeney to implement individual and collaborative projects that were customized for each classroom.
