For more details about John Joyce's work contact Eli VandenBerg, Gallery Store Manager - 215 735-6090 x1 or email evandenberg@printcenter.org
John Joyce has been a part of the Philadelphia photography scene for over ten years. He works in the traditional photographic process of platinum palladium. His photographs are made by painting a layer of light-sensitive liquid emulsion on French watercolor paper. The negative is placed directly on the paper and then exposed to light, creating an image the same size as the negative. Joyce chooses to use the original negative to keep the intensity of the image. Many of his photographs are not printed any larger than 2 ½” x 2 ½”. These minute prints are delicate and full of amazing detail. They draw the viewer in close to the images and keep them, there entranced by the tiny detailed world within. His most recent work was photographed in Cuba and Mexico and features a traveling Cuban circus and the architecture of the ancient Mexican monuments.
