SUMMARY:Conversation with IFPDA + Rebecca Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Gilbert\, The Printmaker (detail)\, 2020\, wood engraving with letterpress\, 8 ½” x 6”\nPresented on Zoom \nAs part of IFPDA’s print month\, we will present a conversation with artist Rebecca Gilbert and our Executive Director Liz Spungen\, exploring Gilbert’s monumental project “A Dance of Death in Two Parts.” When complete\, this ambitious endeavor will consist of 82 individual wood engravings in an edition of 82! 41 of the intimately scaled prints recreate the renowned “Dance of Death” series Hans Holbein the Younger published in 1538\, with 41 corresponding prints of Gilbert’s own design. Her new compositions respond to the Holbein series with representations of the people\, technology and culture of our time. An extremely skilled and accomplished printmaker\, Gilbert’s practice exemplifies a dedication to traditional printmaking processes and how they can be employed to offer potent social commentary in a digital world. \nLearn More\n \nRegister for Zoom \nWe extend our thanks to the IFPDA Foundation for a grant in support of our upcoming exhibition of this exceptional body of work: Rebecca Gilbert: A Dance of Death in Two Parts.  \n

SUMMARY:Conversation with ULAE
DESCRIPTION:Presented in-person and on Zoom \nPlease join us for a Conversation with Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE)! Lauren Rosenblum\, The Print Center’s Jensen Bryan Curator\, will be joined in conversation by ULAE’s Director\, Larissa Goldston and Master Printer and Studio Manager\, Brian Berry.  \nRegister for Zoom \nRegistration not required for in-person attendance. \n  \nAbout Universal Limited Art Editions \nULAE is celebrated for its nearly seventy years of steadfast dedication to supporting the work of contemporary artists and sustaining the tradition of fine art printmaking in the United States. It was founded in 1957 in a small cottage on Long Island by Tatyana Grosman (1904-1982) as a printmaking workshop dedicated to creating fine art lithography. She established a guiding ethos centered entirely on the artist’s vision by offering exclusive and nearly limitless access to the lithography press. ULAE soon gained recognition for its collaboration with young artists of the sixties\, including the luminaries Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg\, and led the way for a revival in the medium in the United States. \nBill Goldston assumed the position of Director in the early 1980s and followed Grosman’s precedent by inviting younger generations of artists. He built a larger\, state-of-the-art printmaking facility staffed by several highly skilled master printers to ensure ULAE could meet their ambitions. To this day\, under the directorship of Bill’s daughter Larissa Goldston\, ULAE continues to collaborate with the most prominent and innovative artists of our times in lithography\, intaglio\, woodcut and digital processes. \nThe Museum of Modern Art collects all of their editions\, from its first to the most recent. There have been several major exhibitions of work produced at ULAE\, including a commemoration of its first twenty-five years at the Art Institute of Chicago\, 1990\, and a celebration of its fortieth anniversary at the Corcoran Art Gallery\, Washington\, DC\, 1997.

SUMMARY:printPHILLY! 2025 Lecture: The Print Center and the Continuous Contemporary
DESCRIPTION:Bertha von Moschzisker\, who became the Second Director of The Print Center in 1944\, shown in the first floor gallery.\nJoin Lauren Rosenblum\, Jensen Bryan Curator\, at The Free Library’s Parkway Central Library\, Heim Center (Room 131/132)\, for a lecture on the history of The Print Center\, presented as part of the printPHILLY! 2025 print fair. \nSince our founding in 1915\, The Print Center has been a medium-specific venue dedicated to printmaking and photography as fine arts. In many ways\, our core programming has persisted. Exhibitions reflect the concerns of their times and the gallery store cultivates a buying public to support working artists. How\, then\, can these two platforms be understood to have defined over one hundred years of modern and contemporary graphics? \nFree and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Steven CW Taylor
DESCRIPTION:“SA Blues” Special Edition ©Steven CW Taylor 2025\nPresented in-person and on Zoom \nJoin The Print Center and Steven CW Taylor to hear the artist and gallerist discuss his practice\, his beautiful wood-bound artist book\, his Germantown gallery space and the overarching philosophy of Ubuntu that guides his work. \nTaylor moves between photography\, printmaking and material exploration. His photographs reflect his lived experience shaped by movement\, observation and choice. In 2021\, he founded Ubuntu Fine Art\, a gallery grounded in the principle of Ubuntu – which means “I am an amalgamation of the people I’ve met along the way.” It operates as both a fine art space and a neighborhood anchor. Ubuntu is the thread that connects every image\, conversation\, and encounter that happens within it. Ubuntu Fine Art is a physical expression of Taylor’s lived philosophy – one that values presence\, curiosity and connection.\n \nRegister for Zoom\nRegistration not required for in-person attendance.
