SUMMARY:DINNER DATE with Jesse Burke & Robert Morrison
DESCRIPTION:Jesse Burke\, I’ll Fly Away II\, 2014\nPlease join us for The Print Center’s spring fundraiser\, Dinner Date\, with artist Jesse Burke and renowned collector Robert Morrison April 27\, 2016. \n\n\n\n\nJesse Burke is known for his dramatically vivid photographs. His Wild & Precious series was created over the last five years\, as he traveled across the country with his young daughter Clover exploring\, communing and sometimes bumping up against nature. The series\, and its accompanying book\, have generated international attention\, not only for its beautiful images\, but also for its intimate depiction of the close relationship between the photographer and his collaborator/daughter. It also tells the story of our relationship to our environment\, urging us to rebuild our connections with the natural world. Works from Burke’s Wild & Precious series are included in By the Book\, The Print Center’s current exhibition.\n\n\n\nBurke holds an MFA from RISD\, Providence\, RI\, where he teaches photography\, and a BFA from the University of Arizona\, Tucson\, AZ. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at the RISD Museum\, Providence\, RI; ClampArt\, New York\, NY; Newspace Center for Photography\, Portland\, OR; and Rayko Photo Center\, San Francisco\, CA. Burke’s work is included in many public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography\, Columbia College\, Chicago\, IL; Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston\, TX; RISD Museum\, Providence\, RI; North Carolina Museum of Art\, Raleigh\, NC; Newport Art Museum\, Newport\, RI; and\, David Winton Bell Gallery\, Brown University\, Providence\, RI. This past fall he was a guest host on The Print Center’s Instagram feed\, as part of our Centennial celebration. An exhibition of Burke’s work\, paired with the photographer Nils Ericson\, was organized by The Print Center in 2011.\n\n\n\nDinner Date will begin at The Print Center at 6:00pm with a private champagne tour of Burke’s work in our exhibition By the Book led by the artist and John Caperton\, Jensen Bryan Curator. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening Reception and Gallery Talk for our Summer 2016 exhibitions\, Jeffrey Dell: Sightings\, Andrew Fillmore: This Time is Always the Present and Leah Mackin: Portable Document. \nGallery Talk: 5:30pm \nOpening Reception: 6:00 – 8:00pm \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAbout the shows: \nThe prints in Jeffrey Dell’s exhibition\, which depict sheets of curled and folded paper\, are deceptively simple. In his screenprints\, colors shift and flux\, challenging our perceptual abilities. “I am interested\,” says Dell\, “in how basic human desires cooperate with facilities of perception. I am trying to make an image that is seductive\, but where the very thing that seduces us also deceives.”\n_________________________________________________ \nThe photographs in Andrew Fillmore’s exhibition are still lifes and portraits\, all of which depict the objects and scenarios most immediate to his everyday life. Fillmore says he is concerned with “the idea that within the simplicity of these moments\, a balance of fragments and associations might disclose the psychological threads of my experience in the present.”\n_________________________________________________ \nLeah Mackin’s exhibition Portable Document is composed of images\, based on digital photographs\, of historical material available online. Mackin responds to the digital surrogate of the scrapbook\, examining the handling of and relationship with archival materials as physical objects. In this show\, work from Mackin’s ongoing investigation of materials\, both physically and intellectually\, include printed works on paper and sculpture that reflect on her interaction with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (the institution that holds The Print Center’s Archives).

It contains over 60 new\, never before published micro-poems and it will be printed in a limited and numbered edition of 200. \n  \nWe were hooked on this book launch by the description of the poetry. Laris Kreslins\, poet\, curator and graphic designer calls his poems micro-poems and says they are about “empathy\, misplaced and imagined memories\, and all sorts of endings.” Kreslin’s pocket-sized book (4×7”)\, titled Atlaidas/es\, and with art by Kevin Mercer\, is printed in an edition of 200.
