Cyrus will discuss his artistic career and inspirations. \n6pm – Reception with Gerald Cyrus and Darryl Chappell\, light refreshments will be served\n6:30pm – Artist Talk (in-person and on Zoom) \nFor more than forty years\, Cyrus has documented Afrodescendant communities across the United States\, Brazil\, Cuba and Africa. Working primarily in black-and-white film\, but also recently in color\, his images move between documentary\, portraiture and surrealism\, revealing both the beauty of everyday life and the enduring legacies of Africa. His gelatin silver prints capture a full spectrum of tones\, offering intimate\, humanistic portraits that resist archetypes and highlight the richness of lived experience. \nThis event is free and open to the public.  \nRegister for Zoom \nRegistration not required for in-person attendance. \n  \nThe Darryl Chappell Foundation’s mission is to empower Afrodescendant artists to achieve their highest potential\, with a vision of a community of artists working together to inspire societal transformation\, driving equity\, human rights and cultural enrichment in local communities throughout the world through art. Since their founding in 2019\, they have awarded or supported artists with over $133\,000 in grants and contracts\, advancing their vision through Artists Talks\, mentorships\, residencies\, public art and the Artist Marketplace. \n \n  \n
