As part of IFPDA\u2019s print month<\/a>, we will present a conversation with artist\u00a0Rebecca Gilbert\u00a0<\/strong>and our Executive Director\u00a0Liz Spungen<\/strong>, exploring Gilbert\u2019s monumental project\u00a0\u201cA Dance of Death in Two Parts.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>When complete, this ambitious endeavor will consist of 82 individual wood engravings in an edition of 82! 41 of the intimately scaled prints recreate the renowned “Dance of Death” series Hans Holbein the Younger published in 1538, with 41 corresponding prints of Gilbert\u2019s own design. Her new compositions respond to the Holbein series with representations of the people, technology and culture of our time. An extremely skilled and accomplished printmaker, Gilbert\u2019s practice exemplifies a dedication to traditional printmaking processes and how they can be employed to offer potent social commentary in a digital world.<\/span><\/p>\n
