Sarah McEneaney

Read Sarah’s Bio

Sarah McEneaney is a Philadelphia-based artist and community activist. She is a long-time, dedicated supporter of The Print Center, along with many other civic and cultural organizations.

Sarah has a certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). Her artwork has been shown in over seventy solo and group shows over the last twenty years, notably at the Mills College Art Museum, Oakland, CA; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA; and the List Gallery, Swarthmore College, PA. Sarah received a Pew Fellowship in the Arts and has had residencies at the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, TX; Joan Mitchell Center, New Orleans, LA; MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, NH; Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY; and Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ireland. In 2007, she was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from PAFA.

Sarah’s artwork focuses on the details of daily life in her home, studio and neighborhood – as does her community activism. She formed the Callowhill Neighborhood Association in 2001, and co-founded the Reading Viaduct Project, now the Friends of the Rail Park, in 2003, where she currently sits on the board of directors.

Her work is represented in collections including the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH; State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg; Mills College Art Museum; Free Library of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Woodmere Art Museum, all Philadelphia; Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Providence; and the Neuberger Museum, SUNY Purchase, NY. Sarah is represented by Locks Gallery in Philadelphia and Tibor de Nagy in New York City.

David Suro-Piñera

Read David’s Bio

David Suro-Piñera is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, restauranteur, agave-enthusiast and photographer. Since arriving in Philadelphia in 1985, he has made a distinct impact on the city through his business and charitable efforts. He been a positive presence and a great neighbor to The Print Center in our Rittenhouse Square neighborhood since 1986 when he opened Tequila’s Restaurant. It has since become world-famous for serving authentic cuisine as well as offering a list of artisanal, sustainable brands of fine, 100% agave tequilas. David is always finding new ways to integrate education, celebration, and tradition into his life and business endeavors.

In the 2006, David’s artisanal tequila, Siembra Azul was launched. Siembra Spirits has since expanded to include many tequilas and mezcals. Through this work, he was disturbed by the industry’s trends toward industrialization, cultural rejection and labor exploitation. He fights these trends by advocating for production transparency and consumer education.

David’s passion for his culture and heritage continues to expand with every project he pursues. In 2010, he helped found the Tequila Interchange Project, a nonprofit organization that advocates for sustainable, traditional and quality practices in the tequila industry. He currently serves as their Board President. David also founded the Siembra Suro Foundation, a nonprofit that empowers Mexican migrant workers and Hispanics in the U.S. to achieve their goals. The Foundation addresses environmental and community issues through supporting clean water, solar energy and school-building initiatives.

David has served on numerous other boards including Philadelphia’s Mexican Cultural Center, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, Puentes De Salud, the Board of Advisors for Drexel University’s Culinary School, Philadelphia Academies Inc. and Friends of Farmworkers (now Justice at Work). In 2006, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named David “Businessman of the Year” for his tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit. In 2010, Philadelphia Academies Inc. named him a CEO Ambassador for 21st Century Skills.

Most recently, David received a 2024 James Beard Award for his book Agave Spirits: The Past, Present, and Future of Mezcals (with Gary Paul Nabhan; W.W. Norton).

We look forward with great anticipation to the reopening of Tequila’s Restaurant, which has been closed since a fire in 2022.

Benefit Auction and Sale Details (the Fine Print)

The Auction begins closing at 8:00pm (ET) on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Lots will close in order of lot number, in ten second intervals.

GETTING STARTED

  1. Bid at Bidsquare.com, or download their free mobile app (Bidsquare Auctions & eCommerce) from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. Browse The Print Center’s auction on Bidsquare here.
  3. Click the green “Register Now” button. You will be prompted to create an account, or sign into an existing one.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish registering, and you’re ready to bid! Be sure to accept text messages so you can receive important notifications.

BIDDING

You can bid two ways:

  1. Enter an opening bid, or the next bid amount on an item. It is easy to follow your bids – you will receive an email notification and text message if you are outbid, giving you the opportunity to bid again.
  2. Enter the highest (max) bid that are willing to make – Bidsquare will increase your bid automatically for you if you are outbid, up to the amount you set. The automatic bid will never be higher than the amount needed to win.

LOT CLOSING

Lot closing will be staggered – bidding ends for each item in a rolling order, ten seconds apart.

Bidding will also be auto-extended, any new bid in the last minute before closing will extend that lot by ten minutes. Auto-extending will continue until there is no new bidding. This allows you to have ample time to counter, raising the most possible support for The Print Center.

Please pay close attention to specific lot end times, as each lot closes individually. Refer to each lot’s countdown timer to keep track of pieces you are following.

Bid Increments: Below $40: $10 $40 – $99: $20 $100 – $999: $50 $1,000 – $1,999: $100 $2,000 – $4,999: $200 $5,000 and above: $500

Winning bidders will be notified by email as soon as the Auction closes.

Buyer’s Premium – a standard charge of 5% of the hammer price will be added to each item.

Winning bidders will be contacted by The Print Center on Tuesday, December 10 to settle any outstanding payments and make shipping or pick-up arrangements. The Print Center accepts PayPal, checks, cash or credit cards.

After the Auction closes, any unsold lots will available at the minimum bid price until December 21, 2024 at printcenter.org/benefit or at The Print Center (1614 Latimer Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103).

All sales are final – no exchanges or refunds. All items are sold as is.

By completing a purchase, a buyer waives any claims for liability against either The Print Center or the donor of the property or service. Neither The Print Center nor the donor is responsible for any personal injury or damage to property that may result from the utilization of property or services sold.

The Print Center’s membership discounts do not apply to Auction purchases.

Contributions to The Print Center are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Items that are left unclaimed for more than 90 days become the property of The Print Center.
