Rob Swainston (born PA; lives Brooklyn, NY) works in in the expanded field of printmaking, combining new and old processes with a focus on the conceptual and social consequences of print media. He is Assistant Professor of Art+Design in Printmaking at SUNY Purchase College and cofounder and Master Printer for collaborative printshop Prints of Darkness. He holds a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University. He attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2007), the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Program (2009-10), the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center (2011-12), the Robert Blackburn Printshop Fellowship (2012), the Bronx Museum AIM program (2015) and is alumnus of the Philadelphia art collective Vox Populi.  He has had solo shows with Esther Massry Gallery, College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY (2011); Guttenberg Arts, Guttenberg, NJ (2019); BravinLee Programs (2010), David Krut Projects (2010) and Super Dutchess (2019), all NY; University Galleries, Illinois State University, Normal (2016); Marginal Utility (2013, 2016) and Vox Populi (2008, 2009), both Philadelphia; and Neuwerk Kunsthalle, Konstanz, Germany (2012). Swainston has been in numerous group shows, including at Arlington Arts Center, Arlington, VA; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn; Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY; Frederic Snitzer Gallery, Miami; Mason Gross Galleries, New Brunswick, NJ; Canada Gallery and International Print Center New York, both NY; Seraphin Gallery, Philadelphia; and Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown, MA.
