Bang Geul Han (born 1978, South Korea; lives Brooklyn, NY) received a BFA in Painting from Seoul National University and an MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts from New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) at Alfred University, NY. Han has exhibited work at the Bronx Museum of the Arts; NURTUREart and A.I.R. Gallery, both Brooklyn; Cuchifritos Gallery, DOOSAN Gallery and Essex Flowers, all New York; and Queens Museum, Flushing; as well as Galerie Les Territories and Projét Pangée, both Montreal, Canada; and Centro Internazionale per l’Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy. Han is a recipient of a number of artist residencies and fellowships including the Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Workspace program; A.I.R. Fellowship, Brooklyn; and MacDowell Colony and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, both New York. She was the 2017 Peter Benoliel Fellow at the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been reviewed in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Brooklyn Rail and Art Papers. Han is Assistant Professor of Design and Digital Media at College of Staten Island / CUNY.

Statement from the Artist:
Han is an interdisciplinary artist working between video, performance, text and code. Her work ponders and probes the sociopolitical and cultural dimensions of body, language and gaze with special focus on storytelling in digital milieux in relation to social structures, representational systems, and understandings of self.
