Statement from the Artist:
In the early 1930’s, my father shot some film near his father’s drugstore in Philadelphia. Nearly 90 years later I was given his negatives, and I began combining the people in his photos with my own images. My father lived in Philly his entire life, and his images are rooted in the corner of 19th and Girard during the Depression. My images are much less rooted. Often, the blur out a car or train window felt more like home than wherever I was living. In “NOW IS ALWAYS,” my father’s life merges with mine. I want this series to create a feeling of collapsed-yet-expanded time. I want to see what my father saw, and I want him to see what I see. I want you to look at the past, and I want the past to look right back.
