Spring 2019
Classroom Teacher: Josh Kleiman
Teaching-Artist: Steph Dobosh
Two classes from The U School joined forces to create one collaborative photobook that celebrated the concept of family. Using Chinn Wang: Soaking Up Local Color as a point of entry into the topic, students learned three different image-making tools. They used smart phones, disposable analog cameras and digital cameras to take photographs of their families. Each student constructed a personal zine that combined photography and collage techniques. Throughout the residency, students benefited from actively listening and engaging in small, group photo critiques and conversations. The students created a cross-classroom collaborative photobook called Family: A Noun. They were given access to an online version of the book, which was also printed and bound as a hardcover, physical copy which will remain in the classroom.
