Statement from the Artist:
Candace Jensen is a passionate environmentalist, visual artist and writer. Her “Gaia Illumination” works are a chimera of multiple printmaking processes, painting, drawing, calligraphy and bookmaking. Jensen’s work reflects her holistic interest in the crisis of myth, nature, magic and the animal body as well as her study and practice of esoteric and somatic arts. She uses old coffee grounds and herbs, traditional oils, ink and gold leaf, to make works that range in size from petite votive icons to wall-sized altarpieces. Many of her works explore the complexities of mystic painting and illuminated verse. She works at ‘seeking-the-between,’  bridging codified knowledge and sensate experience.
