Tarrah Krajnak (b. 1979, Lima, Peru; lives in Claremont, CA) is Assistant Professor of Art at Pitzer College, Claremont. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at the Houston Center for Photography; Honor Fraser Gallery, Los Angeles; SUR Biennial, Los Angeles; Art Basel Miami; The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, NY; Philadelphia Photo Arts Center; Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh; Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR; San Francisco Camerawork; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; and Center for Photography at Woodstock, NY as well as Art London. In 2017, Krajnak was awarded the first National Photography Prize by the Texas Photographic Society for her project Sismos. Her book dummy El Jardin De Senderos Que Se Bifurcan was runner-up in the 2018 Unseen Amsterdam Photobook contest.
Statement from the Artist:
This project explores the legacies of modernist canons within the history of photography. Re-photographing and redacting Ansel Adam’s iconic guidebook Examples: The Making of 40 Photographs, I enfold my own body and personal history into the canon with renewed images, texts and recorded performances that straddle homage and erasure.
