Art in Print Award Winner
Charles Beneke (b. 1968, Norfolk, VA; lives in Akron, OH) earned a BA in Art and Psychology from Kenyon College, 1990 and an MA in Printmaking and Mixed-Media from The University of Connecticut, 1996. He is a Professor of Art at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, where he also is the printmaking area coordinator. He is the current President of the Southern Graphics Council International and was the President of the Mid America Print Council, 2008-2010. His work, in a broad range of print media and installation, addresses disruptive forces within closed systems. Whether on a local or a global scale, his work considers the ripple effects of these forces and how we can respond to them. His work is included in national and international collections including The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt and La Biblioteca Nacional de España, Madrid, Spain. Recent solo exhibitions include Specter, Akron Art Museum, 2015; Accumulation, an Installation in Two Parts, The Lost Coast Culture Machine, Fort Bragg, NC, 2013; Prop, Utah State University, Logan, 2016; and In Absence of Reason, University of West Virginia, Morganstown, 2017.
