Students at The U School focused on themes of experimentation, abstraction and collage. In an initial exercise, students created abstract drawings using a broad range of media. A group critique of the drawings led to a discussion about ways that abstract lines can be interpreted as threads of a story. Students created artworks by pairing watercolors and collage. They then cut out the portions of their artwork which they felt were most symbolic, using these cut pieces to trace stencils onto cardboard. The final project, inspired by Lauren Pakradooni: Static Slip, focused on creating three-dimensional structures from the two-dimensional cardboard components they made.
