Thomas Alva Edison High School, Class A

Fall 2022
Classroom Teacher: Sheree Jackson
Teaching-Artist: Amber Rivera

Edison High School students explored the themes of mental health and positivity through the alternative photographic process of cyanotype. Students learned the history of the cyanotype process, which integrated with learning chemistry and math, and how to mix the chemicals to coat substrates. Throughout the residency, students engaged in conversation about positivity and strategies for incorporating self-care into daily routines, including artmaking. They used self-portraits, 3-dimensional objects, digital negatives and stencils to make cyanotype prints on paper and fabric.
