Cynthia Back (Lansdowne, PA) earned a BFA at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a post-graduate certificate at St. Martins School of Art, London. Back has exhibited widely both in the US and internationally. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including grants from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, Pollock-Krasner Foundation and Puffin Foundation,; residencies to Acadia National Park, ME; Blue Mountain Center, Blue Mountain Lake, NY; Women’s Studio Workshop, Kingston, NY; and fellowships to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation Ballycastle, Ireland; Nordic Artists Centre, Dale, Norway; Cill Rialaig Project, Dungeagan, Ireland; Fundacion Valparaiso, Mojácar, Spain; MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, NH; and Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Taos, NM. Her work is included in numerous collections, including the Free Library of Philadelphia; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; New York Historical Society; New York Public Library; and Newark Public Library.
