Fall 2023
Teaching Artist: Lucy Pistilli
Classroom Teacher: Joy Waldinger
Inspired by the exhibitions of monotyped and monoprinted abstract works Raque Ford: Where Do I start? and Kat Richards: Shapes of Change, two classes in the special needs program at ASPIRA Bilingual Charter High School created a series of individual material and technique-based projects that explored process and abstraction. They worked in relief block printing, bookmaking, gel printing, cyanotype, indigo vat and fiber reactive tie-dying, water soluble crayon monotyping and screenprinting with stencils. These residencies culminated in the creation of multi-media collaborative pieces, including two exquisite corpse books, a cyanotype scroll and a fabric banner, all of which were exhibited in their classroom. The two large-scale, exquisite corpse books were left with unfinished pages, so they could be used as stim tools for special needs students in the future.
