Sankofa Freedom Academy students explored alternative printmaking methods. They questioned what printmaking could be and explored technical aspects of printing. They made relief prints by impressing designs onto Styrofoam substrates. They collected visual source materials with the intention of translating them into personal artworks. This resulted in many unique collages with an emphasis on the importance of symbolism. They then learned how to marbleize fabric. Throughout the residency, students improved their critical thinking skills through informal critiques and classroom discussions.
