Statement
My work is a gendered look at communication. I focus on the consequences to the relationship between signs/symbols and the objects or concepts they represent when popular symbols are re-appropriated, re-imagined or re-contextualized with subversion and some dry humor. Given the illustrative, diagrammatic style of my work, it may be apparent I spend a sizable amount of time leafing through fashion and entertainment magazines. I am interested in the way that popular culture teaches us to instantaneously interpret social signifiers. In my work, these are most often linked to the themes of gender, sex, body language and sexual orientation; issues that have interested me for much of my life.
