Statement from the Artist:
My practice bridges art, design and cultural identity. I trace my interest in color and pattern to my years growing up in India, where I was surrounded by textiles from my mother’s garment export business. I remember accompanying her to factories and being fascinated by woven checks, stripes and block prints – these are embedded in my memory and the surface of my work. The inherent qualities of material, color and pattern have the ability to transform and create optical illusions, made visible through my work.
