R.L. Tillman (b. 1976; l. Baltimore, MD) has a BA in Art and Political Science from George Washington University, Washington, DC, and an MFA from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he was an Arts Fellow. He has exhibited throughout the US at sites including the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Contemporary Museum, both Baltimore, MD; Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Hyattsville, MD; the Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Minneapolis, MN; the St. Louis Center of Contemporary Art, MO and the American University Museum of Art, Washington, DC. Tillman has shown his work internationally as well, including at the 12th Print Triennial, Tallinn, Estonia and the 3rd IMPACT Print Conference, Cape Town, South Africa. He has completed residencies at Artists Image Resource (AIR), Pittsburgh PA; Penland School of Crafts, Spruce Pine, NC; and Lake Effect Editions, Syracuse University, NY. Tillman has been a guest artist and critic at many educational institutions, including Kent State University, OH;  Columbia University, New York, NY; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and University of Pennsylvania, both Philadelphia;  Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; and San Francisco State University, CA.He has served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI). In 2008, Tillman co-founded the award-winning website www.printeresting.org,  where, along with his fellow editors, he produced several exhibitions and publications about contemporary print practice and won an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. In 2010, Tillman joined the full-time faculty at Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, where he teaches courses in the practice and history of printmaking.
