Natia Ser
Semifinalist

Natia Ser (born Hong Kong; lives Chicago, IL) is an artist and educator whose multidisciplinary practice spans photography, book arts and performance. She explores notions of intimacy in the itinerant experience to investigate the ambivalence of familiarity and estrangement, longing and belonging. She examines Chinese superstitions, especially those revolved around the absence of water in her horoscope chart. Ser holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is an alumnus of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Madison, ME. She received the LeRoy Neiman Fellowship from Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency and was a finalist in Luminarts Visual Arts Fellowship. Ser’s work has been exhibited internationally, including Affordable Art Fair, Hong Kong; Field Projects, New York, NY; Filter Photo, Gene Siskel Film Center and SITE Galleries, all Chicago; and Awagami International Mini-Print Exhibition, Tokushima, Japan. Her work is held in Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection and private collections. In addition to her artistic practice, Ser is the translator of Fan Ho’s essay, “My Quest”, in his most recent photobook, Photography. My Passion. My Life.
