Semifinalist

Kate Evans (b. 1999 New York, NY; l. Brooklyn, NY) earned a BFA from the University of Oregon, Eugene; and an MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Evans works as a printmaker and publisher, expanding her practice through collaborative print projects with fellow artists.

Statement from the Artist:
Evans’ work deconstructs themes of body image and consumerism through humor using an unruly mix of materials including copper, paper, ink, ceramic, glass, nipple pasties, ashes, hair, golf balls, bath mats and straitjackets. Her practice examines the self-importance that saturates contemporary life. From social media to the quiet absurdities of the everyday, Evans reveals the gaps between reality and self-image. She embraces mess and contradiction, finding meaning in excess, failure and misalignment rather than resolution. By leaning into absurdity, her pieces invite both laughter and discomfort, reflecting the ongoing struggle to locate sincerity, connection and value within a culture obsessed with appearance and control.
