Soohyun Kim (Chicago, IL) holds an MFA from Hongik University, Seoul, South Korea and from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, IL. He researches the catalyzing potential of art for social change. In his role as Assistant Director at the National Photographers Association of Korea (2005 – 2010), he traveled to remote villages, working with families to preserve their photographs, document their homes and create portraits for use in daily life. He is currently working with the Fight for Fifteen campaign to raise the minimum wage.
Kim has received awards for his work, including a Second Place prize in The Photo Review Competition, 2012, juried by Peter Barberie, Curator, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA. He is an Adjunct Professor of Art and Design, Saint Xavier University, Chicago, IL.
