Kim Llerena

Kim Llerena (Washington, DC) received her BA in Journalism from New York University, New York, NY and her MFA in Photographic & Electronic Media from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD. Her work often engages photography’s indexical and aesthetic properties as a means to critically examine dual implications of the medium: memory and aspiration, translation and description, art and snapshot. She has exhibited nationally including solo exhibitions at VisArts, Rockville, MD and Hillyer Art Space, Washington DC. Llerena has been included in juried shows at the Center for Fine Art Photography, Fort Collins, CO; the Houston Center for Photography, Houston, TX; and RayKo Photo Center, San Francisco, CA. She was a finalist for the 2014 Trawick Prize, Bethesda, MD and a semifinalist for the 2013 Sondheim Artscape Prize, Baltimore, MD. Llerena is part of the faculty at American University, Washington DC.
