Claire Hansen
Semifinalist
Claire Hansen (born Maryland; lives Brooklyn, NY) completed her BFA in Photography at the Pratt Institute for Art and Design in 2020. Hansen has been exhibited both domestically and internationally for exploring medium, memory, and emotional significance in an innovative way. In 2024, Hansen participated in a month-long residency with The Kolaj Institute in New Orleans. She was named a Semifinalist in The Print Center’s 99th ANNUAL International Competition and received an Honorable Mention in the 20th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for her video-game-based work. Hansen co-curated the group show, Memory as Collage at 14BC Gallery in New York, NY, and her first solo show, Places Between, opened in January 2025 at Brooklyn Film Camera.
Statement from the Artist:
I firmly believe that video games have a place in the larger canon of art history and deserve to be analyzed alongside other art traditions. Having a background in photography, I began to explore how the two histories can inform each other. As an artist, I set out to make work that I do not see in museums and galleries; art that challenges the viewer’s expectations of what can be seen and valued in an institutional setting.
