Text contributions in the publication respond to a rich selection of imagery, all sourced from the archives of Women In Transition and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Laia Abril, Suzanne Lacy and Irene Brantley write on the topic of T-shirts made by survivors; Donna Ferrato on her iconic Time magazine cover stories profiling survivors; Ruth M. Glenn on lapel pins worn by anti-violence advocates; Ksenia Nouril on the photographic archives and 35mm slides; Catherine Opie on photographs of women operating a domestic violence hotline; Sangi Ravichandran on institutional 35mm slides; Elias Rodrigues and Paige Sweet on quotidian newspaper clippings about abuse and support; Drew Sawyer on anonymous vernacular photographs taken by survivors; and Carmen Winant on WIT’s “job puzzle.”

This program is presented in conjunction with the five-component project, exploring historical and contemporary representations of oppression, liberation and self-expression. Other components included an exhibition (presented April – July, 2022), public interventions in Philadelphia bus shelters, public programming and a short film.
