The Brandywine Workshop was founded in 1972 by Philadelphia artist Allan Edmunds, in a space that was originally a Prints in Progress workshop. Since that time, the Brandywine Workshop has become an internationally recognized center for printmaking, in particular for its dedication to offset lithography. The Brandywine Workshop has worked with dozens of significant Philadelphia artists, including Lois Johnson who taught printmaking at the University of the Arts for many years. Beyond Philadelphia, its curatorial mission has always been international and the organization has sponsored nearly three hundred residencies from fifteen countries. Over the last forty-three years, numerous prints produced at the Brandywine Workshop have been included in exhibitions at The Print Center.
