Julie Jensen Bryan & Ruth Fine
Thursday, November 11, 2010 | Cocktails 6:00pm; Dinner 7:00pm
This event, the first of five annual events, begins the count down to The Print Center’s 100th Anniversary in 2015. This year’s celebration, honoring our first 100 years and looking forward to the future is dedicated to recognizing Curatorial Excellence and will be held on Thursday, November 11. The 2010 Print Center Honorees are Julie Jensen Bryan and Ruth Fine. We are pleased to have this opportunity to honor both of their outstanding contributions.
Julie Jensen Bryan is honored for her longstanding dedication to The Print Center, marked by the recent naming of our Curatorial position. Ms. Jensen Bryan has been closely involved with The Print Center since the early 1970s. She joined the Board of Governors in the 1980s, and has remained an Honorary Council member and active supporter of the organization ever since. She is an accomplished photographer, known for her spare and elegant architectural images and her iconic portraits of Maggie Kuhn, the founder of the Gray Panthers.
Ruth Fine is the Curator of Special Projects in Modern Art, National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. where she is the lead author of the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Mark Rothko’s works on paper and the coordinator of The Herbert and Dorothy Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States project. Among the exhibitions she has organized for the Gallery are Romare Bearden; John Marin; Gemini G.E.L.: Art and Collaboration; Graphicstudio, U.S.F.; Thirty-Five Years at Crown Point Press; the prints of Helen Frankenthaler, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns; and Lessing J. Rosenwald: Portrait of a Collector. Ms. Fine’s professional life has many parallels with activities at The Print Center. She was the curator of former Board member Lessing J. Rosenwald’s outstanding print and drawing collection, and was closely connected to another former Board member, printmaker Benton Spruance. In the 1980s Ms. Fine served The Print Center as an Advisory Board member.
The Print Center commissioned photographer John Joyce to create a special image to be presented to the honorees. Catering is provided by Diverse Catering.
