MEET OUR HONOREES

City Councilmember Rue Landau

Gabriel Martínez

Gabriel Martínez

Rue Landau is a civil rights and housing attorney, a public school parent and the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Philadelphia City Council. She has spent her entire career fighting for social justice and equity for Philadelphia’s most vulnerable communities.  She has a vision for Philadelphia that lifts up every neighborhood and ensures that every person has the opportunity to thrive.

She started her career as an activist and housing organizer. She was on the frontlines in the fight for economic justice, demanding access to affordable housing and health care during the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as an active member of ACT UP, Kensington Welfare Rights Union (KWRU) and Women’s Health Action and Mobilization (WHAM!).

Then, for more than a decade, Councilmember Landau worked as an attorney at Community Legal Services helping low-income renters in Philadelphia avoid illegal eviction from their affordable housing. She fought and won lawsuits that kept thousands of the city’s most vulnerable and high-risk families together by successfully challenging government bureaucracies.

Later, Councilmember Landau served as the director of both the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) and the Fair Housing Commission (FHC), the city’s civil rights and housing enforcement agencies. During her 12-year tenure, Councilmember Landau transformed the agencies into national models for government and community engagement, social justice, and equitable opportunity.

Working with City Council, she led initiatives to strengthen and expand the city’s Fair Practices Ordinance and Fair Housing Ordinance, adding civil rights protections including wage equity, fair chance hiring for people with criminal records, reasonable accommodations for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and good cause eviction safeguards, among others. She also oversaw community relations initiatives to combat hate and bias and to bring communities together to prevent conflict and promote understanding.

After leaving the commissions in 2020, Councilmember Landau taught housing law at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law as a Beck Fellow and served as the director of law and policy at the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Now, after winning the November 2023 general election, she plans to use her years of knowledge, skills, and relationships to serve all Philadelphians as an at-large member of Philadelphia City Council.

Councilmember Landau’s roots in Philadelphia expand beyond her proven work history. She is an active member of her synagogue Kol Tzedek in West Philadelphia. A proud graduate of Temple Law School, Councilmember Landau has served on numerous boards of non-profit and community organizations and currently is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Philadelphia LGBTQ Bar Association, as well as a committeeperson in the 2nd Ward. Councilmember Landau is married to her wife, Kerry, and together they received the first same-sex marriage license in Pennsylvania, when it became legal on May 20, 2014. They live with their son, a public school student, in Bella Vista – right around the corner from Councilmember Landau’s identical twin sister. She grew up just outside the city, in Cheltenham, and she’s been proud to call Philadelphia her home for more than 30 years.

Gabriel Martínez has created projects, performances and installations for Miami Art Central and Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, Miami, FL; Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), Institute of Contemporary Art, Marginal Utility, Philadelphia Art Alliance, Philadelphia Museum of Art and William Way LGBT Community Center, all Philadelphia, PA; and Exit Art, Franklin Furnace, Leslie- Lohman Project Space, Thread Waxing Space and White Columns, all New York, NY. His work is included in Phaidon Press’ Art & Queer Culture (2019) and in Nueva Luz: The Queer Issue (Volume 22.2). His work is held in the collections of FWM, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art and Philadelphia Museum of Art. Martínez has received a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship, a Pew Fellowship in the Arts and an Independence Foundation Fellowship. He has had residencies at Arcadia Summer Arts Program, Banff Center, FWM, Fountainhead Residency, Joan Mitchell Center, MacDowell Colony, Ox-Bow, Studios at MASS MoCA and Yaddo. Martínez attended Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting, Madison, ME, earned a BFA from the University of Florida, Gainesville and an MFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, Philadelphia.

Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms and conditions before registering to bid at, or purchase at, an auction. By registering to bid, you agree to these terms and conditions.

The Print Center: You can find information about The Print Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, our 2025 Benefit Auction and other Benefit Events and www.printcenter.org. For more information, contact us at benefit@printcenter.org.

Registration: It is necessary to register to bid. To register:

  1. Follow this link to The Print Center’s Benefit Auction, powered by The Auction Collective.
  2. Click the “Create Account” or “Sign In” button at the top right corner of the page. If you need to create a new account, you can do so manually (you will need to verify your email address), or register using an existing Facebook or Google account.
  3. Follow the prompts to finish registering, and you’re ready to bid! Be sure to watch your email for notifications from no-reply@indy.auction.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have provided complete and accurate registration details.

We reserve the right to reject the registration of a Bidder, reject the final purchase of a Buyer, or block a Bidder during an auction, for any reason and at our sole discretion.

Bidding and Auction Rules:

The Auction will begin closing on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 3:00pm (EST). Lots will close in sequence of lot number, at one minute intervals (cascading lots). Each lot displays its own countdown timer.

You can place a bid for any lot by selecting the next amount in the drop-down bid selector. Place a “max bid” by choosing the highest amount you are willing to bid in the drop down, allowing the software to automatically bid on your behalf. Your bid is only increased if someone else bids against you. If no one bids against you, you will win the lot at the lowest required amount.

Any lot that receives a new bid in the final minute before its stated closing time will be automatically extended by two minutes (popcorn bidding). Auto-extension will continue until there is no new bidding within a minute of closing. This allows you to have ample time to counter, raising the most possible support for The Print Center.

Please pay close attention to specific lot end times, as each lot closes individually. Refer to each lot’s countdown timer to keep track of pieces you are following.

To access lots you are interested in quickly, “favorite” a lot by clicking the heart icon (top right in grid mode, or under the image on the individual page). Then, at the top right of the page, click the three dots next to your name, and choose “Wishlist” from the drop-down options.

In the event of conflicting bids (for example, where someone has already set a maximum bid of the same amount) the bid placed first will take priority.

Bids increase by a predetermined increment as displayed in a drop-down bid selector for each lot.

Bid increments are:

Below $200: $10
$200 - $299: $20
$300 - $499: 0-2-5-8 pattern (i.e. $300, $320, $350, $380, $400)
$500 - $999: $50
$1,000 - $1,999: $100
$2,000 - $2,999: $200
$3,000 - $4,999: 0-2-5-8 pattern (i.e. $3,000, $3,200, $3,500, $3,800, $4,000)
$5,000 - $9,999: $500
$10,000 - $19,999: $1,000
$20,000 - $29,000: $2,000

All bids are final and binding.

The Print Center is not liable for any missed, invalid, failed, lost or incomplete bids.

Buyer’s Premium: A fee of 5% of the hammer amount will be added to each winning lot price.

Taxes and Shipping: Applicable taxes and shipping charges (including any import taxes) are the responsibility of the Buyer. All lots ship from Philadelphia, PA.

Communication: All notifications will be conducted by email. Email will come from no-reply@indy.auction. You will receive an email:

  • After registration
  • “Bid confirmation” – after each bid
  • “Outbid notification” – each time you are outbid
  • Winning bid acknowledgment when Auction closes

Winning bidders will be contacted directly by The Print Center on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to settle any outstanding payments and make shipping or pick-up arrangements. The Print Center accepts cash, checks, credit cards and PayPal.

After the Auction is closed, unsold lots will available at the minimum bid price until December 22, 2025 at printcenter.org/benefit or at The Print Center, 1614 Latimer Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
